Dad would be 98 today! And, my 'One Year Anniversary' of Blogging!

     Dad would be ninety eight years old today.  This is one of my favorite pictures of Dad at age sixty three, sitting at his desk at Lewis and Clark Elementary School Pocatello, Idaho. He retired from the Idaho Education System in June of 1976 (35 years ago) after forty three years of teaching/principal starting at the age of twenty.
I miss him; I miss his pleasant smile, his gentle mannerisms, his humor, his love I would feel just being in the same room with him.
     I inherited my dad’s beautiful dark skin and for this reason in 1996 I started doing ‘Family Search’.  Where does the dark complexion come from?  Dad didn't know!  Blogging about this will be sometime in the future but, I will say that two years ago I thought the answer would be found only to experience great disappointment.   I suspect Dad’s father’s line that goes back to 1831.  I was told a story that seemed very probable and a DNA test would prove the ‘story’ to be right or wrong.   It would be so simple if one of my brothers could take the test but, it had to be all males back to 1831.    Example; starting with Dad it goes like this, male, male, female, male.  The female which is Dad’s grandmother, Ellen Burns has two brothers.   I searched the 1930 census records and found a male descendant of one of Ellen’s  brother’s  and contacted him, (a second cousin once removed) living in Twin Falls, Idaho.  He agreed to take the DNA test which I paid for.   Something went wrong; the DNA that was sent to Gene Tree (the company I went through) by cousin Warren Burns was contaminated and Warren wouldn't redo the test or would no longer accept my phone calls! I got my money back from Gene Tree and I have put this matter on the ‘back burner’ to my great disappointment.

     Also, it was one year ago today I finally started this genealogy blog.  Of course the one who learns most from this blog is me.  One year and still I am not finished with KIDGELL/CASHMORE line,  because it forced me to do more research which takes time.   Having a 'cousin' who sent me the 'Histories of Kidgell and Cashmore's" has been a great help and I haven't begun to post all that is in these histories.  The next line will be the HEPWORTH ancestor's.  And they had eleven children who lived to be adults. So this blogging about my ancestors will go on for a long while.
   
     I would like to post at least once a week but, in the summertime that goal is very difficult.  I golf a couple times a week and we do travel.

David's Reunion

There is only one family reunion Earl and I attend and it’s his mother’s side.   Earl and I have been married forty nine years coming this August and I have seen his ‘DAVIDS’  reunion attendance go from three hundred fifty to this year’s sixty people and we are grateful  that there were that many.

 The reunion started out years ago for descendants of his Great- Grand Parents Ruth Call Davids who is a full Piute Indian and husband James Henry Davids who came into the Utah Territory as a teamster of the Johnston’s Army.  Ruth was adopted by Anson Call and his first wife Mary Flint at age of about two years old.  With permission from Anson Call, James Henry married Ruth when she was fourteen years old, he was twenty nine.   This couple was one of several families who were the first settlers in Chesterfield, (then Bannock now Caribou), Idaho.   A beautiful valley located eleven miles north of Bancroft.  Bancroft is between Lava Hot Springs and Soda Springs, Idaho.

Now, it has been decided to move to the next generation of descendant’s; Earl’s Grandparents Anson Chester the sixth child of Ruth and James and his eternal mate Caroline Paul. 

The 'Chet' Davids family plan to meet every year at the 'ole homestead' in Chesterfield.  Hopefully next year there will be more that sixty.

Rules for Good Fellowship

Ever, ever will I learn!  I have in my stash of 'ideas for Renée's Blog' this piece of information with nothing written on it to remind me of;
1) When I received it,  2) Where I was when I received it, 3) Or, who gave it to me.
Word of advice; ALWAYS put these three pieces of information on anything you want to save, because if you are like me and think you will remember, you won't.
I'm guessing it was a handout for lesson given in DUP (Daughters of Utah Pioneers) a couple of years ago.   I have 'googled it' by name and title hoping to find a source with no success, which I was surprised because more often than not I can find a source.
Just look at the date on this piece of Wisdom; 1860.   I felt it was still worth posting even though I can't prove Marianne is a real person!  I do think she is!  Wouldn't you love to have this wise person in your pedigree!

Last Twenty Years; Sarah Ann Cashmore Kidgell

It's amazing to me of what it takes for me to suddenly realize the importance of;

• Letters
• Picture
• Records of sorts  

I have in my possession.  These things were discovered in a trunk in an old family granary in Albion, Idaho. (This information comes from the  Kidgell and Cahsmore Histories that was sent to me when I first started blogging about Charles and Sarah Ann.)     I even think I have the old trunk where these precious thing were stored.  Until very recently, I had no idea the signification of these items or the trunk that sits in my guest room today! 
By doing extensive research on the Cashmore/Kidgell's I have come to realize how blessed I am to have these things in my very own possession.
 Below is the latest record of importance.  Old genealogy/temple records.  The last twenty years of Sarah Ann's life she did 'genealogy'.  She must have written a considerable amount of letters to relatives in England to get the information that is shown in the record below. (That would take twenty years!) I have many pages of this type of information.   These pages have been torn out of a Temple Record book and I have no idea what has happened to the 'other pages'.
I had to include the four pictures of Sarah Ann in different stages of her life.
I am sure when I get to the other side I will recognize Sarah Ann Cashmore Kidgell.

Road Trip To My Past and My Ancestors Past.

10 June 2011 I left my home  - just me - for a ten day road trip.  I must say On Star is worth every penny spent!  Those who know me, know I am directional challenged but, with On Star NO PROBLEM.
My first stop was just five hours away, Boise!  Spent the night with a cousin Bev Halling(our mother's are sisters) and enjoyed catching up on family and dinner out.   Next stop was just a few hours away in Jerome where I was born and lived until twelve years old.  The only familiar building downtown was the bank on the corner, otherwise it looked like 'Little Mexico'.  The swimming pool where I spent many many summer hours is now just a playground!  The front porch of our old house is the same (just like you see in my blog pic with me sitting on my fathers lap) otherwise a pretty sad worn out house.  I won't go into all details of my trip just to say it was a great ten days.  I will mention all the other places I spent time visiting, Albion, Twin Falls, Pocatello, Lava Hot Springs, Logan, Ogden, Salt Lake City.  In Salt Lake City I visited my Great-Great-Grandfather's house Thomas Hepworth that is being restored.

18 June 2011; you will see that the porch cover has been taken down in preparation to restore it to the original LOOK.    Alan B. is the owner and restorer and lives in the house.  When he purchased the Hepworth House it had been turned into apartments and the brick had been covered with ugly asbestos siding.  Alan has done a wonderful job restoring the outside and soon it will have the original look of the porch.  He works from a photograph.  Fortunately no walls had been altered inside the house just walls added which he has removed.  (Mostly)

Alan has a done a remarkable job in researching the house which was built by Thomas and Mary Hepworth in 1877 and has had several owners through the years before Alan purchased it in 1999.  How fortunate we are to have someone see the beauty of our ancestors house and so carefully and lovingly
bring it back to the original beautiful structure.

Did you read the post where Sadie (Sarah Ann) Kidgell married James Fletcher Hepworth?  Remember?  They were married in this house.
