How sad! I agree with you, she probably never felt very validated about her experience because no one understood and likely didn't want to understand. She probably carried that with her for her entire lifetime.

I hear the self defense gurus say that a predator will in many cases seek out a particular kind of person to make their victim. That something as simple as the way we carry ourselves, if we make eye contact with others. That a fighter is a person that they would be less likely to target. Maybe the way her personality evolved was her own way, to not become the victim to always try and have the upper hand, to try and manipulate or control others in order to not get hurt again. I don't know enough about her in particular to really give an educated guess though. I like what you said, because you could really apply that to how we see others in general, walking a mile in their shoes before judging.

This is very unnerving. Such a long time ago and that it actually made it into the paper. I wonder if she continued to see this man around town?
